Antigua is the former capital of Guatemala. In the morning you can hear the carts pulled by horses through the cobbled streets. The people say it's the sound of the ghosts of the time of the Spanish occupation. The city is full of ghost stories, which give it a soul that is well known worldwide.

Antigua, which now has 35, 000 inhabitants, is located at 1500 meters above sea level in a beautiful green valley, about 45 minutes from Guatemala City. Mountains surround the city, and from most of the streets there are amazing views. The climate is pleasant, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 25 degrees in the day.

The old colonial buildings have been restored and are home to numerous cafes, bars and restaurants today. Inside most of these buildings you will find courtyards filled with flowers and plants. You can easily spend a few hours with a good coffee watching the passers-by.

On Sunday, the market is well worth a visit, it has a stunning colour palette. Here you will find; vegetables, meat, spices, flowers, everyday objects or home made sweets.

Thanks to the unique architecture and its pleasant climate, Antigua is a popular town with tourists from around the world. This influx of visitors brings the town to life with street dancers, lovely cafés, meeting places, cinemas etc. If you want to change the usual meal of beans and corn tortillas, you can easily find international restaurants where you can get to know other foreign and talk about other things other than conjugating Spanish verbs.

Thanks to the tropical climate, temperatures are quite high throughout the year. On the coasts and the plains it is hot and humid, and in the highlands the weather is variable. It can get up to 30 degrees the day and down to 5 degrees at night. During the rainy season, from May to September, the sun usually shines up till 4 p. m. and torrents of rain can turn the streets into rivers. December and January are the coldest months, and March and April are the hottest.

  • to the Pacaya volcano, including transport, a Spanish talking guide and entrance fees. If you are not able to climb the mountain because of your physical condition, you can ride a donkey (approx. 25$ extra fee).

In the same building you will find an office, a laundry, a toilet, a lounge for watching movies or a having a coffee, tea or mineral water. Courses start every Monday and participants arrive the day before the start of the course (Sunday).
