Before you start your humanitarian volunteer programme, you will take an English language course. During this period, you will receive information about the country, culture and society; you will visit the volunteer placement and go out on trips.

This period of immersion is very important, it helps get used to your new environment and will help you make your decision to choose the programme that fits you best.

Non exhaustive exemple of an introduction week:

  • Day 1: Volunteers come in early to do the English test and get introduced to their class until 12.30.
  • Day 2: English all morning and in the afternoon: visit to volunteer centre
  • Day 3: English all morning and free afternoonLearn English and volunteer in South Africa Globalong

Upon enrolling, you will choose three placements that will be your first choices. You will make the final decisions after discussion with the local coordinator once you are there. Your final choice will depend on the current needs of the centres and your individual skills and interests. The placements and tasks as described on this website are not an exhaustive list, and can change according to the needs of the moment. If you wish to participate in a placement in a school or in a training centre, be aware that the projects are closed during the South African school holidays. During these periods, you can participate in other placements. The complete list will be provided on site according to the situation at the time.

We ask our volunteers to be respectful to and open minded about the local population.
