Local time in Quito:
Some international magazines consider it the best Ecuadorian language school and one of the ten best Spanish language schools worldwide.
With its colonial architecture, the school is located in the residential area of "La Carolina", where there are many restaurants, cafés, shopping centres etc. There are 21 classrooms, a language lab, a library, a video library, an auditorium, a solarium, a gym, and Internet access.
The school also has a cafeteria where students can have lunch. This school is recognized by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education and collaborates with the largest university in the country "Universidad Central".
The school offers intensive Spanish courses at all levels and in small groups of 4 students maximum. Each week, your level will be assessed and the courses will be tailored to ensure your progress. At the end of your stay, you will get a certificate that will reflect your oral and written level, as well as the number of lessons you have completed. The courses focus on oral and active teaching, but grammar and writing are also part of the teaching and students will have homework to do at home every day. The school makes a point that students should become aware of the habits and customs of the country.
Courses start every Monday and you will be greeted at the airport the day before. The first day you will receive information about the school, Quito and the country. After an assessment test followed by a discussion with a counsellor, you will join a class of your level and begin the course. Classes are held in a relaxed atmosphere, often outdoors.
Students stay in a single room with an Ecuadorian host family. This is the best way to get the most out of your course in Ecuador. Host families are generally what would be deemed “ middle class" and have been working with the school for many years.
These are families who are used to receiving students and the rule is that you speak only Spanish at “home”. Breakfast and dinner are taken with the host family, and you have access to a washing machine. These families generally live near the school.
At school you can take dance classes and learn the local cuisine. At the Metropolitan Park, located near the school, you can play volleyball, football and basketball.
In addition to lessons, the school organizes excursions to historical monuments, museums, the old town and the presidential palace. The school works with the largest Ecuadorian travel agency, organizing rafting excursions, trekking in the Andes, walks in the Amazon jungle or a cruise to the Galapagos Islands. Students enrolled in this school receive preferential rates.
You will have 20 hours per week in groups of 5 people. Classes are taught in the morning and in the afternoon you will have the opportunity to participate in activities organized by the school or visit the city on your own. Language courses are open to all people who wish to learn or improve their Spanish. The courses are intensive, combined with activities to practice newly learned vocabulary. Courses start every Monday and you must arrive at your host family the Sunday before.
In Ecuador, you can combine a Spanish course with eco-volunteering. The programme starts with a minimum of 2 weeks of Spanish lessons to prepare for the project, that will last between 4 and 24 weeks.
During the language course, you will receive information about the project and the local coordinator will explain the programme in details. He is there to make your volunteering experience unforgettable for you and helpful for the project that hosts you.
As a volunteer, you must be independant, flexible, mature and know how to take the initiative.
In exchange, you will get a unique opportunity to know the ecuadorian culture and nature.
By taking part in a volunteer experience, you will get the chance to speak Spanish every day and increase your vocabulary, but you will also experience a developping country that knows difficultites, but that is very welcoming.

During the volunteering, you can either stay with the host family or move in with another family if your project is too far from the first one.
If you participate in a placement at the wildlife reserve or national parks (see our programs in Ecuador - eco-volunteering), you will be accommodated on site.
