Orphanages

Volunteer in orphanages in Peru and take care of children !

As a volunteer you can join this project, which houses abandoned children and children who have run away from their families. Here they find a healthy environment and are safe from the dangers of life on the street.

Besides accommodation and meals, the centres provide education and vocational training to children. Each centre hosts about 65 children and young people aged 6-20 years. If you wish to participate in this project and if you want to engage with children of a specific age (e.g. 6-12 years and 13-20 years), consider mentioning this when enrolling.

You will work in the mornings or the afternoons, but since the centres are open all day, any additional commitment is greatly appreciated.

Sample tasks:

  • Singing Workshops
  • Organizing games
  • Organizing creative workshops such as art or crafts
  • Photo fun au Pérou - GlobalongHelping teachers during professional workshops such as sewing, knitting and ceramics
  • Organizing and teaching sports
  • Teaching the younger pupils to read and write
  • Helping to prepare meals and maintain the centre

Despite their youth, many of these children have a painful past. You need to be patient and to listen to the children to understand their past and their injuries.

During the day, most older orphans go to school. Meanwhile, you could help the staff with the daily tasks, take care of the younger children or help teachers during class.

Entry requirements:

You must commit to a minimum of 4 weeks to create a relationship of trust with children and staff.

By agreeing to a volunteer placement in a country like Peru, you must show that you are flexible and understand that there is no set timetable. You should be independent and mature.
