Volunteering in Costa Rica. Learning spanish in Costa Rica

The spanish school in Costa Rica:

Classe Costa Rica - Globalong

The school is located in Carrillos near Alajuela, the International Airport Juan Santa Maria and San Jose, the capital. The climate is pleasant all year round. It is also a good starting point to visit the Poas Volcano and the towns of Sarchi, La Garita and Grecia. The classrooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The school is surrounded by a large garden with tropical plants, flowers and fruit trees. Between the trees you will find several hammocks, which are available for free time. You can access internet via the school's computers or your own computer using the Wi-Fi connection.

If you wish to travel on your own after your stay, the school can keep your personal items, and you can come and collect them from Monday to Friday during office hours.

Spanish Lessons in Costa Rica:

short lesson of danse with Globalong

All levels are offered in schools - from absolute beginners to advanced. Teaching is very intense, because you will have 20 hours per week in classes of up to 4 students. The fact that teaching is in small groups guarantees that your language level will be taken into account. The school has a high success rate, but it is important to contribute to the lessons by actively involving yourself.

The teachers are all graduates in teaching Spanish as a foreign language and receive training using the latest teaching techniques. They are instructed to make learning fun and interesting to inspire participants. Students come from all over the world, and there is one rule at school: It is forbidden to speak any other language than Spanish!

Volunteering requires flexibility and independence. You must be able to organize your time and improvise during your mission, even if the local coordinator is with you before and during your stay. The program starts with a minimum of 2 weeks language course as described above, followed by a volunteer period lasting from 1 to 3 months depending on your availability and your interests.

If you are a beginner in Spanish (no previous experience), the minimum course duration changes to 4 weeks. We organize missions in two different sectors: Social and National Parks. If you choose the social field, please specify when registering the mission that suits you best (see the details of each assignment below).

During your course, you will be staying with a Costa Rican family on a half board basis. The stay with a host family is the best way to practice Spanish in everyday life, and especially to learn about the culture of the country.

Globalong humanitarian projectThe families are carefully selected and most have warmly welcomed foreign visitors for many years. The family members speak only Spanish, but experience has shown that language is not a barrier, even for beginners in Spanish.

Each family receives only one participant at a time (unless you want to stay with another person), to ensure a perfect fit.During your time as a volunteer, you will be accommodated either with a host family, or on the premises where your mission is situated, under local conditions.
