Volunteering in Jamaica

Travel in Jamaica for a life-changing experience !

Jamaica is a destination everybody loves to visit. This Caribbean island, with beautiful beaches, stunning mountains and purple sunsets is a “must-see” destination.

Jamaica became world known thanks to Bob Marley’s reggae music. Nowadays the island is also internationally known thanks to its super athletes, like the Olympic champion Usain Bolt. Unfortunately Jamaica’s population lives in absolute poverty.

Tourism is Jamaica’s most important source of income, but the economic crisis severely affected the island and high unemployment rates still continue to increase.

Commit yourself to international volunteering in Jamaica and discover this mysterious island in another way, by helping the population.

Climate:

The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in Jamaica. They include the island's highest point, Blue Mountain Peak, at 2256 m. From the summit both the north and south coasts of the island can be seen.
The island is surrounded by an extraordinary coastal plain with the main cities such as Kingston or Montego Bay.
Volunteer in a orphanage - GlobAlong Jamaican climate is said to be tropical with a hot and humid weather, but the interior is more temperate. Cyclones are frequent during the end of the summer and early fall and can cause considerable damages.

Kingston town:

Kingston is surrounded by the Blues Mountains, Red Hills and Long Mountain. Kingston harbor has a tropical climate, characterized by a rainy season from May to November and a dry season during the rest of the year. Like many other capitals in developing countries, Kingston struggles with poor suburbs.

The world famous reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosch and Burning Spear all came from the popular Trenchtown district in Kingston. The influence of Rastafarian believes in is easy to notice in Kingston, mostly in the southern suburbs. The poorest and the unhealthiest parts of the city.

The volunteer programme in Jamaica !

Volunteer in education in Jamaica - Globalong Jamaica is often associated with crystal clear water and beautiful beaches, but the island is much more than that. The number of poor communities is growing and many of the inhabitants are children.
In order to try to solve the problems the Government, religious communities and NGO’s have decided to help orphanages and shelters for children and adults.

International volunteer help is needed to realize projects, to support the staff working in the centers and help with the education of children and teach basic lifestyle rules.

GlobAlong - Volunteering abroad

Many of the children do not receive the education and affection they deserve, and volunteers play an important role, assisting local staff.
